In a country like Uganda, it was indicated in the 2002 National Census that 54% are children under the age of 14 out of the general population which is 24.6. The majority of the 54% are children from poor families who can©öt afford to go to school. It is estimated that 2 million children have been orphaned as a result of their parents being killed by AIDS. 10% out of the general population is HIV positive and AIDS is the main cause of death among adults aged between 25 - 45 years.

Throughout the country you find child-headed households as quite a number of families no longer have an adult to lead and care for the children. It is the eldest child who must look after the brothers and sisters and sometimes even cousins.

Some children when both their parents die, they are taken to grand parents who are already helpless and as a result these lovely children end up on streets eating from dustbins, suffering from sexual abuse, child labor, early marriages, etc. The situation makes one shed tears.
